Sedation Dentistry
Boise, ID

Woman undergoing sedation dentistry at Water's Edge Dental in Boise, IDRegular visits to the dentist are vital when it comes to keeping your teeth and your smile healthy and strong, however many individuals decide to skip this step in their oral health care entirely. Visiting the dentist can be a stressful and worrisome time, and for this reason, many people simply live with tooth pain or ignore their teeth altogether. While it is understandable to experience some fear at the thought of visiting the dentist, avoiding the situation completely is not a good option for your oral health. That’s why at Water’s Edge Dental, we are proud to offer sedation dentistry to our patients. Do not live in pain just because you are scared – we can help you calm down and feel more confident about your dental visits.

Sedation Dentistry

Sometimes the fear of visiting a dental office goes above and beyond simple “anxiety” and transforms into something that can negatively impact your health. When this happens, affected individuals might find themselves having a panic attack at the mere thought of visiting the dentist. When this happens, it might be a good idea to look into sedation dentistry! As the name implies, sedation dentistry is a form of dentistry that focuses on lowering your stress levels so that you can visit the dentist without fear. This can be done via oral conscious sedation through the use of things like anxiety medication or nitrous oxide.

Safety

You might wonder if this is a safe option for individuals to take, and the answer is “yes”. Sedation dentistry is safe and is designed merely to sedate your nerves so that you do not experience an undue amount of stress. It is not designed to put you to sleep, in other words, nor is it designed to heavily alter how your body experiences and processes information. You will feel calmer, but the effect is short-lasting. You will feel back to normal again shortly after your appointment, and should have no lingering effects from treatment whatsoever – except, possibly, fewer nerves about your next appointment!

Things to Know

With certain forms of sedation dentistry, you might need to have someone drive you to and from our office. With nitrous oxide, however, this is not the case: nitrous oxide completely leaves your system around five minutes after the gas itself is stopped, which means that you can drive yourself safely. Additionally, you should know that sedation dentistry is not meant to completely sedate you. You will be awake and have full control of your faculties, which means that you can communicate with one of our dentists normally and ask questions as you normally would. You will also remember the visit just fine after the gas leaves your system.

When the anxiety surrounding a dentist appointment is so great that it prevents you from getting the help you need, consider reaching out to Water’s Edge Dental today for information about how you can visit our offices safely and without fear or stress.
