Cleanings and Exams Boise, ID
You take the time to brush your teeth twice a day. Maybe you even floss daily. You do everything right at home to keep your teeth clean and healthy. However, did you know that visiting the dentist regularly is just as important? Even the most diligent brushers can miss areas of the mouth, leaving them susceptible to gum disease and tooth decay. At Water's Edge Dental, we can help. We provide cleanings and exams that allow your teeth, gums, and mouth as a whole to be as healthy as possible.
Dental Cleanings
Regular brushing along with flossing are two key elements to a healthy mouth. However, there are some regions of the mouth that are not easily accessible by you and your toothbrush, leaving them to build up plaque and bacteria. The bacteria can then lead to gum disease. Unfortunately, the early stages of gum disease often go ignored. You may never even notice them until it has progressed into something worse. Additionally, the longer you go without treatment, the more likely you are to face serious consequences, such as receding gums, loose teeth, or even teeth that fall out.
Regular professional dental cleanings can help to optimize your oral health. We recommend cleanings at least twice a year. During these cleanings, we work to rid your teeth of plaque buildup, along with any tartar that has formed. Tartar is hardened plaque that easily collects bacteria, and cannot be removed with a toothbrush. We take care to clean all visible surfaces of your teeth (front, back, and chewing surfaces) along with the hard-to-reach places, both between your teeth and under the gumline. Once your cleaning is complete, we use a special polish that gives them a brilliant shine.
Dental Exams
Once your teeth have been cleaned, we then perform a thorough exam. We do a complete visual inspection of your mouth, checking for signs of tooth decay, chips, cracks, fractures, gum disease, or any abnormality within your mouth. During this screening, we also check both in your mouth as well as around your face and neck, for signs of oral cancer.
Part of your exam may include digital x-rays. With digital x-rays, we can see everything not visible to the naked eye. We can see between your teeth, the roots of your teeth, even the condition of your jawbone and the structures that support your teeth. We keep these digital x-rays on file, and use them to compare to any future digital x-rays we may need to take.
Your exam will also include a discussion. We will ask you questions about your lifestyle habits (if you smoke or drink) as well as about your brushing habits. We can provide you with tips and tricks on how to make your at-home routine better. You will also have the opportunity to ask us any questions or voice your concerns over your oral health. Our goal is to help you have the best oral health possible.
