How to Keep Your Teeth Forever

Posted on 3/22/2021 by Water's Edge Dental
How to Keep Your Teeth ForeverTeeth are essential in helping us chew food before swallowing. This activity exposes them to mouth bacteria, which can cause decay with poor dental hygiene. While we desire to keep our teeth perfect and maintain that natural smile and quality speech, dentures may be inevitable for some of us. This is because some diseases and accidents can impact our teeth resulting in tooth loss. If this happens, you can still maintain your overall oral health by practicing good oral hygiene and eating a healthy diet.

Brush and Floss Daily

Besides maintaining your mouth healthy, daily brushing and flossing will fight tooth decay and gum disease, which threaten oral health at any age. You should also brush your teeth daily for two minutes using the right brushing technique and fluoride toothpaste. After brushing, floss your teeth to remove any food particles stuck between your teeth surfaces. You should also remember to replace your toothbrush after at least three months for effective brushing. If you wear braces at any point in your life, use a special toothbrush to clean your teeth. Also, if you wear partial dentures, you should remove them for a couple of hours and clean them for a healthy mouth.

Diet

In addition to good oral hygiene, your diet also impacts your teeth health and how long you will keep them. Eating unhealthy sugars predisposes you to tooth decay as bacteria will feed on the sugars and release acids, corroding your enamel. The weakening of your enamel exposes your inner teeth to decay, which, if severe, may force tooth extraction. To keep your teeth healthy, feed on a balanced diet with larger portions of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, which contain beneficial nutrients for your teeth. Finally, you can also keep your teeth forever by quitting smoking and maintaining a regular dental visit for a complete dental checkup.
