The Best Way to Brush and Floss in the Back of Your Mouth

The Best Way to Brush and Floss in the Back of Your MouthBrushing and flossing between your front teeth is fairly easy. You can use a mirror to very clearly see the teeth you're working on, and there's nothing preventing your toothbrush or floss from reaching the space. Cleaning the back parts of your mouth, though, may not be as easy. Here are a few tips for brushing and flossing in the back of your mouth.

Use Longer Pieces of Floss

Flossing between your back teeth can be difficult because your cheeks prevent you from easily accessing the area. One way to more easily floss between these teeth is to use long pieces of dental floss. You can loop the floss around the tooth and hold it outside of your mouth, giving you more space to move your fingers. If you find that this still doesn't help, you may want to try using a water pick. It uses a directed stream of water to wash between the teeth.

Cleaning the Back Teeth

Brushing your back teeth can also be a little more difficult than brushing in the front. Because of this, you may find that you only give your back teeth a quick once-over and then pay more attention to the front teeth. If you find yourself doing this, slow down and focus on fully brushing all of your teeth. If you find that your toothbrush seems a little too bulky, you may want to look for one that has a smaller head. Electric toothbrushes often have smaller heads that you can more easily maneuver. Make sure you brush all the way to the end of your back-most tooth. Using a mirror can help you determine when you've reached that point.
