What to Do if Your Filling Feels Too High

Posted on 7/23/2020 by Water's Edge Dental
What to Do if Your Filling Feels Too HighMost people who have had issues with their teeth have at least one filling in their mouths. Before leaving the dentist's care, you are likely to have been asked to bite down to ensure that the filling is in its proper place and not causing any pain or discomfort. However, after some time, you will sometimes find that the filling doesn't quite feel right. That's often because it is too high. So what should you do in such a case?

Determining If the Filling Is Too High

Before taking any measures, you might want to properly verify that there is a problem with the filling. A simple way to do this involves an effortless test called a clench test. In a nutshell, this involves pressing your upper and lower teeth tightly together while your mouth is empty. If you feel some sensitivity, soreness, or pressure on certain sections of the teeth, it's a good indicator of a high filling. Because of the uneven bite caused by the filling, you'll find that many simple tasks become difficult or even downright unpleasant.

Dealing With a High Filling

The very first thing you should do in this case is to contact us immediately and set up an appointment. When you come to our offices, our dentist will examine the problem areas, and if the filling is the root of the issue, it can be ground down to the right level. When the procedure is done, you will likely feel an immediate improvement in terms of pain relief and comfort. However, if the pain continues past two weeks, you should book another appointment because it might be a sign of more oral issues that need to be addressed.

Getting dental fillings should give you the comfort and functionality that you expect and not pain and discomfort. Immediately after getting the fillings, you might have some pain or discomfort, but it shouldn't last for a long time. Don't waste time if you need to get fillings in your teeth or suspect that yours isn't fitted properly. Take immediate action by calling us, and get your teeth as healthy as they should be.
