Water, especially fluoridated water, can benefit your teeth in several different ways. Here are reasons why it's a good idea to pass over soda and other beverages for some good old H2O.

It Makes Your Teeth Stronger

Fluoride is a natural way of preventing cavities. All you need to do is drink a few glasses of water a day and you'll likely notice that you don't have as many cavities pop up. One study done in Canada discovered that if the city stopped adding fluoride to the drinking water, cavities in children increased. Fortunately, all you need to do to get water with fluoride is to turn on your kitchen sink.

Water Rinses Out Your Mouth

Soda, tea, coffee, and juice all leave behind sugar or various acids in your mouth. These things can stick to the teeth where they're eaten by the bacteria that cause cavities. Since water has neither sugar nor anything else that can harm your teeth, it's a great way of cleaning out your mouth. It can even help to weaken the acid produced by the bacteria in the mouth that damages your teeth's enamel.

It Helps Reduce Dry Mouth

Dry mouth is a condition that occurs when your mouth can't produce as much saliva as it should. There are a number of things that can cause dry mouth, and most of the time it's not really that harmful. However, saliva does help keep your mouth clean. Drinking water can help keep your mouth clean while you deal with the cause of your dry mouth.

While drinking a good amount of water every day is certainly good for your teeth and your overall health, it doesn't replace brushing and flossing. Make sure you continue to do both regularly, plus don't forget to come see us for regular checkups and cleanings.
