If you do not like going to the dentist and have gone years without, your dentist is not going to shame you for walking in the door now. They are going to praise you for taking the steps to get your oral health back to where it should be. A lot of people put off going into the dentist until the pain is so bad, they can't stand it anymore. The best time to go in is now, ahead of that pain, so that you can get to the issues before they become miserable problems. Finding a DentistThe first part of returning to normal dental routines is finding a dentist that you can trust. Look over your prospective dentist's website and see if they specialize in caring for people who have gone without dental treatment for an extended period of time. Most restorative dentists have this specialty. If you find this, then give them a call. Explain the situation, and see when they can fit you in. The other part of returning to seeing a dentist regularly is talking with the dentist directly. Speak with them about what kept you out of a dentist's chair for this extended period of time. If it was a bad experience, say so. Tell them what happened, and listen to their solutions to help you move past what happened to you then. Shame is no reason to not go in to see the dentist. No dentist is going to make you feel bad for missing treatments in the past. They are all going to be happy that you made the choice now, rather than waiting even longer, to come in and get seen for the dental care you need. |
