When Should I Have a Tooth Extraction?

Posted on 6/19/2023 by Water's Edge Dental
When Should I Have a Tooth Extraction?Tooth extraction may be required for a variety of causes, including tooth decay, crowding, gum disease, and trauma. When the necessity for tooth extraction may be avoided, such as dental decay, it is critical to take all required precautions to avoid losing your teeth. You can avoid this by visiting our office on a regular basis, where we will diagnose and treat early indications of tooth decay.

Tooth decay

Plaque and tartar buildup leads to the formation of bacteria that produce acid, eroding your teeth' enamel, making them weak, and eventually causing decay. If this decay is left untreated, it leads to an infection characterized by extreme pain, swelling, and redness. At this point, our dentists recommend tooth extraction to prevent further damage.

Gum disease

Gum disease, also known as gingivitis, refers to the swelling of gums in the area at the base of the teeth. Gingivitis results from the buildup of tartar in the gum region at the teeth's bottom. The tartar irritates the gums, causing redness, swelling, and bleeding. When the gum holding the tooth becomes too weak, our specialists recommend tooth extraction in place for a crown or dental bridge. This extraction will prevent further damage to neighboring teeth.

Crowding

Crowding of teeth happens when your mouth does not have enough space for permanent teeth to grow in. Some of your teeth grow at the rear of your mouth due to a lack of space. Crowding causes your teeth to grow crooked, making your smile appear less attractive. Extraction of misaligned teeth will protect your teeth and allow you to maintain your lovely smile.

Visit us immediately if you require tooth extraction treatments or advice. Our doors are always open, and we look forward to serving you.
