Baby Teething

Posted on 11/21/2022 by Water's Edge Dental
Baby TeethingA baby's primary teeth start developing during pregnancy. These teeth then erupt at about 6 months after the baby is born. This can happen a few months before or after. You will start noticing the symptoms prior to the eruption.

What to Expect

Teething varies in different babies. Some experience little or no symptoms while others go through a series of them. It is important to know the signs you should expect from your baby during this process. The most common symptoms are stated below.

Symptoms of Baby Teething

Excessive drooling is common for young babies during this period. You should use a bib to keep your baby dry and clean. Usually, this results from sore gums due to teeth trying to erupt. Always wipe off the saliva and apply a moisturizer to prevent chapping. Your baby can refuse to feed as well because of sore gums that may get irritated when they are feeding.

You might notice your baby pulling their ears and rubbing the cheeks on the side where a molar is erupting. This is also common when baby teeth are starting to grow.

A teething baby will bite and chew anything they can get into their mouth to relieve the discomfort. If you are breastfeeding, they might bite your nipples, they also put their fingers in the mouth to bite and chew clothes. It is important to put socks on thier hands and ensure those dangerous items that could cause harm is out of thier way.

The gums swell due to the movement of teeth beneath them. Blood trapped under the gums is what makes the gums appear red. This is also common in babies who are begging to get their teeth.
